The term screensaver is relevant in the computer world. Computers were not as popular two decades ago. Today, small kids tell what screensaver constitutes. Computer monitors employing the cathode ray tube, or CRT, first led to the invention of the screensaver. There is a real possibility that a bright image that remains unmoving on screen for a half hour or more can cause phosphor burn-in, a problem where excessive heat breaks down phosphors on the tube and leaves a lasting image on the display.
